# Quick start

> Install Beav, connect the browser extension, and follow the basic path from your first source to searchable content.

You do not need a complete creation system configured before you start. Finish the desktop install, connect the browser, and run one real capture — that proves the core data path is working.

## Main entry points in 2.9.3

Applies to desktop 2.9.3 and browser extension 2.7.27. First-time setup asks you to choose the domestic or international edition before creating a space. Each space can have its own creation platforms.

* Open a session card on Home to continue in a floating drawer. Questions appear above the composer and accept either an option or a typed answer.
* General, AI model and personalization settings save automatically. Use ⌘/Ctrl + =, − or 0 to change or reset interface zoom.
* Manuscripts show versions for the current space’s platforms; use the missing-version entry to start a conversation that creates one.
* Server edition can connect this browser’s Beav extension; see [using the extension](https://getbeav.com/en/docs/browser-extension/use).

These instructions follow the built-in workspace and connections guide. Source review does not mean every device interaction was tested. Installer signing, architectures and public downloads are verified separately during release.

## What you need

* A computer running macOS, Windows, or Linux.
* Chrome or Edge.
* A Beav workspace you plan to keep using.

## Finish the desktop install

Go to the [Beav download page](https://getbeav.com/en/download) and pick the package that matches your computer. After the first launch, create or choose a workspace. Workspaces are best divided by account, client, niche, or long-term project.

## Connect your browser

Installing the Beav browser extension from the Chrome Web Store is recommended: the browser handles installation and every later update. When the store is not available, download the ZIP and load the unzipped folder that contains `manifest.json` manually in Chrome or Edge.

## Save your first page

Open a regular web page and save it from the Beav side panel. Back in Beav, check the knowledge base for the page title, the source link, and the body text.

If the page is saved, the core path is done. Next try Xiaohongshu notes, comment sections, YouTube videos, images, and selected text. Full steps: [First capture](https://getbeav.com/en/docs/getting-started/first-capture).

## Keep creating

Keep several related sources in the same workspace and let Beav develop topics from real content, then create a post, a video script, a voiceover script, or a cover. The complete method: [From capture to draft](https://getbeav.com/en/docs/workflows/collect-to-create).

## Settings and automatic saving

Checked against source on 2026-10-08. Requires a Beav build containing PR #44; older installations may still show the previous categories and save buttons.

Settings contains Account, AI models, General and Personalization. Creator profiles and custom instructions live in Personalization, web access in General, and MCP connections in Tools & skills → Plugins.

Edits save automatically after a short pause, and pending edits are submitted when leaving the page. General settings, creator profiles and custom instructions wait about 800 milliseconds; model configuration waits about 1.2 seconds. If saving fails, keep the draft, read the error and correct the content before another save. An unchanged failed draft is not repeatedly retried. Type checking passed; rapid navigation and save failures in the real desktop app remain unverified.
